Do you have any information on where to find companies in Southern California that do cryogenic hardening of engine parts?

    Based on our research at Louisiana Tech University on cryogenic treatment of tool steels, we found that cryogenic treatment [slow cooldown (2 hours, long-time soak (24 hours), at -320 deg. F] resulted in a change in the Rockwell hardness of the tool steel by only about 1.0 Rc. The mechanisms responsible for wear improvement produced by cryogenic treatment do not contribute appreciably to any change in the hardness of the tool steel. The desired hardness must be achieved with the conventional heat treatment prior to the cryogenic treatment. On the other hand, cold working at cryogenic temperatures (77K or -320 deg. F) can produce an increase in hardness for some metal alloys.
