Air Products has announced that it will supply its proprietary liquefied natural gas (LNG) process technology and equipment to Chevron Australia Pty Ltd for three process trains that will produce up to 15 millions tons of LNG per annum at the Gorgon Project. The LNG units will operate offshore Western Australia on Barrow Island, with production scheduled to begin in 2014.
As part of the agreement, Air Products will provide three separate units of its proprietary propane pre-cooled mixed refrigerant process using the SplitMR machinery configuration. This project is just the latest example of Air Products’ involvement in LNG projects in Australia. In 1980s, the company delivered process technology and MCR cryogenic heat exchangers for the first three trains at the North West Shelf Venture LNG Project.
Jim Solomon, director-LNG at Air Products, said that the company is very pleased to have the opportunity to work on the project at a time when natural gas usage is increasing in importance on a global basis as a clean source of energy.
