The Japanese institute, RIKEN and the UK’s Science and Technologies Facilities Council (STFC) have signed an agreement to extend their research collaboration projects until 2018. Currently, the two organizations conduct vital research in areas such as superconducting materials for computing and medical technology, as well as fusion energy science.
A celebratory event was held at STFC’s Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire, UK, during which the agreement was officially signed. The latest extension of the agreement follows 20 years of collaboration and investment by the two organizations.
Professor Niyori, Nobel Laureate and RIKEN President, said, “The RIKEN-RAL partnership is not only at the forefront of muon science, having resulted in over 250 papers being published over the last 20 years; it has furthered the cultural understanding between Japan and the United Kingdom.”
The RIKEN-RAL group will also work on their understanding of superconductors and the search for generating alternative, clean energy through fusion energy.
