I’m student of University of Barcelona.
We do technical cryogenic research and we are searching for a cryogenic portable freezer that does not need electricity. We can’t find any company that offers something like this.
The product we are looking for is the typical portable freezer for food or drinks but working with liquid nitrogen, not with ice or electricity, so you can easily transport vacuums, organs, or some product which needs low temperatures to be safe.

June 3, 2011Sounds to me like a dry shipper of sorts as you can’t really move vessels around with liquid nitrogen sloshing around. They use a hydrophobic absorbent to keep the product down at low temperature. Many different people make them but they usually have a narrow neck. However some companies sell inserts of the absorbent which you could fit to a larger neck vessel. You’d end up with a sort of super-coolbox. Don’t know if that was the sort of thing you had in mind. If so, let me know and I can point you in the right direction.

June 3, 2011From the description of your situation, it appears that you need a multilayer-insulated (MLI) dewar (25 to 50 liter capacity) with internal trays or other arrangement to hold the products in place that you wish to preserve or maintain at cryogenic temperatures and transport. The use of MLI allows the liquid nitrogen in the container to be maintained for periods up to 4 or more weeks without refilling (after the products have been cooled down). The dewar would be initially filled with liquid nitrogen, then the product would be placed inside the container and cooled to liquid nitrogen temperature. A 25-liter container can be handled by one person; a 50-liter container would probably need an accompanying support frame with rollers for easy transport.
There are many companies that can supply this item; however, it is unlikely that you will find a source that has the item (with the
internals) “off the shelf.” Some possible sources include:

The companies listed above are based in the United States; however, I’m sure that British Oxygen Company, the Linde Kryotechnik AG (Pfungen, Switzerland), and l’Air Liquide (Sassenage, France) could supply you with appropriate information.
