Accident exposes LN2 cocktails as a serious danger

Bars in the UK are being warned of the potential dangers of LN2 cocktails after an accident involving an 18-year-old in a Lancaster bar in early October. Gaby Scanlon had to have her stomach removed after drinking a shot laced with LN2.

The London Evening Standard reported that the Westminster council wrote to dozens of bars and clubs before Halloween to make them aware of the incident.

Scanlon was celebrating her birthday with friends when she was offered a shot of Jagermeister containing LN2. Immediately after drinking it, she felt “excruciating pain” and was taken to a local hospital for emergency surgery. The LN2 had burned a hole in her stomach.

“I am angry these theatrical cocktails are aimed at younger people,” Scanlon told the Sun.
