Bestobell supplies valves for first US LNG flag vessel

The first US flag vessel to be operated on liquefied natural gas uses valves supplied by Bestobell Valves (CSA CSM). Globe and check valves were supplied as part of the LNGPac fuel system through the company’s preferred supplier agreement with Wärtsilä Gas Power Systems (GPS). The ship, known as Harvey Energy, is the fifth in the series of five Harvey Gulf vessels to be supplied with Bestobell’s cryogenic valves, as part of Harvey Gulf International Marine’s “going green” initiative.

Mark Henley, Managing Director of Bestobell Valves, said: “It is very exciting to have supplied the first US flag vessel that will run primarily on LNG. Ship builders and owners are increasingly opting for fuel efficient LNG and this kind of vessel is a blueprint for the future of marine engineering.”

Bestobell’s LNG cryogenic valves are specifically designed for marine applications with the very important requirement that the valves have firesafe properties, whereby all components must be able to withstand a minimum temperature of 925° C (as per the interim IGF code).
