I am looking to find a test house that is capable of testing the static coefficient of friction under cryogenic conditions. We can be flexible on most of the test parameters, including the test coupon configuration, but we’re looking for a test house that can provide the following test environment:
• Vacuum = 0.1 torr max
• Cryogenic temperatures = 77 Kelvin max.
Ideally, we’d be looking for a lab that could test down to 20 Kelvin or below, but 77K testing should still provide useful information. Test coupons would be coated with dry film lubricants and would be provided by NGST after we work out the testing details and define a coupon geometry.

October 29, 2008I represent the Cryogenics Test Laboratory at the NASA Kennedy Space Center, Florida. We offer a full range of services such as what you are requesting in your email. You can view our website at http://www.cryogenicstestbed.com. It is somewhat dated material and in need of an update, but it will provide you with our general capabilities.
We would be interested in discussing the details of your test and providing a proposal in response to your request.
I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
Regards,
Walt Hatfield
