Airgas, Inc. recently signed a five-year services agreement to supply the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS) with off-site cryogenic repository services. Under the agreement, long-term storage of research samples will be provided in Airgas cryogenic storage systems that use nitrogen-cooled freezers with a temperature of -300 degrees F.
The agreement came after UPHS officials realized that expansion of current cryogenic storage was not possible due to lack of space.
“Airgas offers a completely turn-key solution for us,” said Wayne Smith, UPHS associate vice president, corporate materials management.
The off-site facility, owned and operated by Airgas, houses freezers, liquid nitrogen bulk tanks, monitoring, monthly reporting and double-layered security systems.
