Sir Martin and Lady Audrey Wood, co-founders of Oxford Instruments, were chosen for the Lifetime Achievement category at the Oxfordshire Business awards. These awards have been given out for the past 16 years to recognize the contributions of county businesses.
Wood’s invention of the company’s first commercial superconducting magnet was the driving force behind Oxford in its beginning years. The company has since grown into a worldwide, high technology business.
“This is a great surprise,” said Wood. “I have received awards before, but nothing like this.”
“We have had tremendous opportunities and very good luck,” said Lady Wood.
