Science Oxford, a charitable organization that promotes the pursuit of science and enterprise in the UK, has announced plans to build a state-of-the-art cultural center that will focus on science. The center will take approximately five years to build and will cost £30 million.

Through interactive galleries, a planetarium, a public plaza and a cafe, the center will provide a fun, inspiring experience to science enthusiasts of all ages. It will focus on the accomplishments of area researchers, universities and institutions. Science Oxford is also planning to create rentable office space in the structure, along with businesses and conference/corporate events facilities.

A site has already been identified and purchased for the new center: Macclesfield House in New Road, adjacent to the area’s historic Castle Mound, in Oxford UK.

“In creating a new public center for science and enterprise here in Oxford, our vision is to bring excitement of science and the joy of discovery right to the heart of our city,” said Ian Griffin, Chief Executive at Science Oxford.

Officials expect the center to become a major tourist attraction for the area, bringing in close to 100,000 visitors per year. A third of the funds needed for the center have already been secured; the rest will come from private individuals, trusts and foundations.
