Can you please advise if FEP Encapsulated O rings are used within the cryogenic process and what materials? I have been asked by my company to write about FEP Encapsulated O rings for a training seminar.

Marco seals company of Andover , Mass, USA. They have a series f seals FEP energized “O” rings down to about -60 ͦC for most hollow or Viton filled elastomers. But these listed below are rated down to hydrogen and helium so there are many manufacturers in the field. M-cor is another that makes Teflon and Viton encapsulated “O” rings down to -60 ͦC ( -74 F).

What sort of plastic or rubber O rings? What temperature?

In liquid hydrogen service, it is required to compress the “O” ring to 1/5 its original size for the seal to hold vacuum at 20 K. See original work by Weitzel published in the Proceedings of the Cryogenic Eng’g conference many year ago. Plenum, Press is the original publisher
