SwRI’s Angel Wileman named one of Women in Hydrogen 50 for 2025

The Women’s Global Leadership Conference (WGLC) in Energy has selected Angel Wileman of Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) as one of the 2025 “Women in Hydrogen 50,” recognizing her as a current and future leader in the hydrogen economy. This international list honors 50 women who are helping shape a more sustainable, energy-efficient world through hydrogen technology.

“I am deeply honored to be recognized as a leader in the hydrogen community,” Wileman said. “Society has the opportunity to create a sustainable, energy-efficient future, and hydrogen is one of the great tools in our toolbox. I am excited to be a part of the scientific community advancing the adoption of hydrogen technology in Central Texas and across the world.”

Wileman manages SwRI’s Thermofluids Section, where she leads projects involving experimental testing, facility design and fabrication, testing support, results analysis, technical reporting, and project management. Her current research focuses on implementing hydrogen and natural gas blends, as well as advancing hydrogen refueling technologies for heavy-duty applications. Recent projects include evaluating the accuracy of natural gas meters with hydrogen blends, analyzing the effects of blended gases on peak shaving plants, and assessing risk zones for bulk container transport of hydrogen blends by rail.

Known for her ability to conceptualize and build custom flow facilities for complex energy challenges, Wileman is now leading the launch of H2HD REFUEL—an industry consortium at SwRI dedicated to the development of hydrogen refueling stations. The consortium explores component testing, station control systems, hydrogen vehicle storage solutions, and standards development to support the broader adoption of hydrogen fuel.

Beyond her technical work, Wileman is also a dedicated mentor and advocate for young people pursuing careers in STEM. She has guided high school and college students on engineering projects and has delivered numerous talks encouraging young women to enter the field. Her leadership has been recognized with the 2019 Empowering Women in Industry Leadership in STEM Award and a 2023 San Antonio Business Journal “40 Under 40” distinction.

The Women in Hydrogen 50 list is compiled annually by WGLC in partnership with Hydrogen Economist and H2Tech. Honorees will be celebrated at the Women’s Global Leadership Conference in Energy this October in Houston, Texas.
