A banner from Coastal Studies for Girls, a science and leadership school, returned on November 7 from a trip into space on NASA’s shuttle Discovery. The school, based in Freeport ME, is expected to open by 2009 and will provide opportunities for high school sophomore girls to excel in science and technology. The banner was carried into space by Mission Commander Col. Pamela Melroy. “In terms of goal-setting and achievement, Col. Melroy is exactly the kind of role model we intend to hold up for our students,” said Edith Aronson, chair of the school board. “We are very grateful to her for this grand gesture of support.”
