What is the difference between radar and servo gauge for LNG tanks? How do I understand the gauging system for LNG tanks and choose the best one?

August 1, 2008If the tank application is a stand-alone commercial/laboratory storage application, the standard way to gauge the level is with a differential pressure level gauge that directly measures the liquid head. The inner tank is usually fabricated with small, ca. 1/4″ taps on the very bottom and very top to accommodate weld connected lines that then bridge the vacuum insulation gap and exit through welded penetrations in the vacuum shell. LN2 has a density that is ca. 80% that of water, i.e., a head of 0.8*0.4335 psi/ft. =0.3468 psi/ft. Other more sophisticated applications may call for a different treatment. If the application is a special one, you will need to describe it in some detail before someone can help you further. — Unknown Author
