Toyota Gazoo Racing has unveiled the liquid hydrogen-fuelled GR LH2 Racing Concept car, designed to drive the development of hydrogen technology in motorsport.
The ACO H₂ Hydrogen Village was the setting chosen by Toyota Gazoo Racing to premiere the GR LH2 Racing Concept.
In keeping with its principle of offering the world’s most illustrious carmakers a platform to test new technologies, the 24 Hours of Le Mans is helping Toyota to take up the carbon neutrality challenge. In essence, the Japanese manufacturer uses the French endurance classic and the FIA World Endurance Championship to develop its technologies in the demanding environment of motorsport before rolling them out on the production line.
The presentation of the GR LH2 Racing Concept is part of the celebrations of the past, present and future staged to mark the 40th anniversary of Toyota’s first Le Mans appearance. The most visible aspect of these celebrations is the new liveries chosen for the Toyota GR010 Hybrid Hypercars. The paint scheme of the #7 entry, driven by Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck de Vries, is a tribute to the TS020 of 1998, while the #8 sister car of Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa has adopted its traditional matt black colour that symbolises the team’s determination.
