Where can the cryogenic insulator trade be studied?

I have been searching for information regarding the training of cryogenic insulators and have not been able to find any information in North America. We currently show a demand for a gas pipeline being built in Canada where our company has contracts. Part of the upcoming contracts show a need for cryogenic insulators. Where can this trade be studied and which schools actually teach this trade?

I am not aware of any school that teaches this trade. There are engineering courses such as chemical engineering, cryogenic engineering that teaches the proper application of insulation. ASME offer short courses in mechanical insulation. The following web site may be of interest:

Each manufacturer has developed their own method for insulating cryogenic fluids. There are two basic types of cryogenic insulation: 1) Mechanical insulation (-160° C and warmer) and 2) Vacuum insulation (-160 C° and colder).

Vacuum insulation is the most efficient method of insulating cryogenic fluids and mechanical insulation works well in congested areas of short distances. There are considerable web sites for “mechanical insulation” and “cryogenic insulation” that may be helpful.

The temperature of the fluid under consideration should determine the type of insulation that can be used.
