An event at CERN on March 13 marked the 20th anniversary of the World Wide Web, the most well-known spin-off from CERN. It was 20 years ago that Tim Berners-Lee submitted a paper ‘Information Management: A Proposal’ to his manager Mike Sendall. By December 1990, Berners-Lee’s idea for the Web had become a reality, and was up and running between just a few computers at CERN.

The event covered pre-history and early history of the web at CERN and included a speech by Berners-Lee. Some of today’s Web pioneers were present for a series of talks.
