CSA Corporate Sustaining Member American Superconductor has announced the expansion of its strategic alliance with Shanghai Electric Cable Research Institute (SECRI).
AMSC will deliver wire and provide consulting services to SECRI, who recently ordered AMSC’s HTS wire for the development and manufacture of a 30-meter-long, 35 kilovolt cable system. Under the new terms of the collaboration, distribution voltage cables will also be promoted. The local Shanghai government will support the development efforts.
“We expect the first superconductor cable deployment in China’s power grid system to occur early in the next decade and that this will lead to widespread adoption of superconductor cables throughout China,” said SECRI’s General Manager Dei-Wong.
