President Barack Obama announced at the April 29 annual meeting of the National Academy of the Sciences that Argonne National Laboratory, a CSA Corporate Sustaining Member, is the site chosen for two new research centers. Argonne’s Energy Frontier Research Centers (EFRCs) will be among the 46 planned for the US over a five year initial period in a multi-million dollar effort to pursue advanced scientific research on energy. Each center will receive $19 million from DOE over the five years.
The research done at Argonne will focus on efficient energy conversion and electrical storage technologies.
“This is a very exciting opportunity for Argonne,” Argonne Director-Designate Eric Isaacs said. “Argonne can bring its deep well of research expertise to bear on scientific grand challenges, which will open the door to energy technologies that will significantly alter and improve how we power our homes, businesses and vehicles.”
