Professor Riita Hari, an internationally recognized and respected neuroscientist, has been named an Academician of Science by the Academy of Finland. This honorary title is held by no more than twelve Finnish scientists and scholars at a time. The President of the Republic in Helsinki presented the letter of appointment to Hari on November 29.
Hari is currently the Director of the Brain Research Unit of the Low Temperature Laboratory at Aalto University School of Science and Technology. Hari began work at the Low Temperature Laboratory in 1982, and since then has become known for her work in developing magnetoencephalography (MEG), which picks up weak magnetic fields and is able to provide information with millisecond resolution.
Hari has been active in scientific publishing, with 285 scientific articles to her name. She has recently started another five-year term as Academy Professor and directs the Finnish Center of Excellence on Systems Neuroscience and Neuroimaging Research at Aalto University.
